How To Publish A Website On Your Own Domain

How to publish a website on your own domain?

Website publishing is essential for everyone who wants to setup eCommerce website, make money online, or simply setup individual website. If you know some basics about website publishing, then you are almost halfway through.

Thanks to technological advances, creating website is simpler than ever. Once you have your web hosting account and a domain, which is registered in your name then you can easily log in to your account by using either a cPanel or Plesk depending on your operating system. The control panel is a user friendly resource for customization of a web hosting plan, installation of CMS and other applications.

You need to decide how you are going to create your website because there are three different ways to do it such as a dynamic website powered by Content Management System, large website with static pages, or a small website having few pages.

It is easier to create a small static website if you are having some knowledge about JavaScript, HTML, and CSS. Once you have created a website every page is actually an individual file on server and will display precisely the way you have created whenever anybody is visiting your website.

If you are using a Content Management System then you will not be required to design every single page of your proposed website from the scratch. These applications are designed to store information of your website information in databases and leverage templates to sustain a uniform design throughout all pages of a website. The application uses JavaScript and HTML with CSS.

It is easy to install Content Management Application on your hosting plan with help of a one click installer. The CMS facilitates adding or modifying content without any hassles. Users can access the functionality from any location by using a web browser. Appearance of website can also be changed by using a different theme or template. These changes can be implemented without impacting online availability of the website.

Once you have installed a CMS with help of your host company's control panel, the provider will send email to you about instructions to log in to the CMS application. When you access the main menu of CMS, you will be able to initiate with template installation process by selecting a relevant theme and subsequently customizing the same as per your requirements.

This should follow installation of useful plugins including security plugins and SEO plugins. Since plugins will cause your website to slow down a bit, it is recommended not to add too many of them.

The most significant part of the process is publishing content of your website. If your website has been created by using WYSIWG editor, then the same will be up and running immediately as the files are uploaded to the server. However, since file management systems provided by hosts can cause the process to slow down, it is better to use File Transfer Protocol tool that directly get connected to web server and achieve the file transfer more efficiently.

In the case of a dynamic website, the new content can be added by accessing 'Add New' link on the Dashboard under 'Pages' or 'Posts'. If the website is designed for company, then the option of 'Pages' is used and the blog sites can use the option of 'Posts'.
