VPS is more secure than the shared hosting. Both the hosting platform has websites sharing the server. The host manages and maintains the servers in both the hosting.

Shared hosting has numerous websites sharing the server as well as the resources. The possibilities of all websites being affected are more in shared hosting at times when one account is compromised or suffers from any malware attack. In VPS hosting, though the websites share the server, each account is independent of the others. They are hosted in individual containers which give the websites more privacy and security. Possibilities of outside intrusions are less in VPS. The VPS account holders can customize their firewall configurations and install the software for better security which is not allowed in shared hosting.

In shared hosting, the websites share a common IP address. This makes all accounts vulnerable to the risk of all accounts being blacklisted in case one account holder does some illegal or prohibited act. In VPS, each account holder is given a dedicated IP address that identifies and separates one account from the other.
