Linux and windows are two forms of operating systems available to you. Although they have many similar functions and provide all the features that VPS offers there are quite a few differences between the two.

Linux is open source and is more preferred by web designers and developers. It does not carry any license fee and does not require any special software to run it. It integrates well with open source scripting languages like PHP, MYSQL and has several distributors like CentOS, Debian, Ubuntu etc. Linux VPS plans generally come with cPanel control panel. Linux is more robu8st and stable and does not require frequent reboots.

Windows is owned by the tech giant Microsoft and being a commercial product carries license fees. It thus is more expensive than the Linux operating system. Windows works well with all languages including Perl, PHP and Python. It is mandatory for you to choose Windows VPS server if your system runs heavily on Microsoft platforms of MSSQL, ASP.NET and MSAccess. Windows gets lot of support from Microsoft with frequent updates and upgrades. Windows require rebooting frequently.
