The content delivery network is a technology that aims to bring static content faster to the visitor browser. It is a cluster of cache servers that are placed in Points of Presence(PoP) or data centers and when a visitor requests for some content, the web page is delivered to them from the server that is geographically closest to them.

The main objective of a CDN is to eliminate latency. A web page may contain images, dynamic content, HTML, videos etc and they consume a lot of time to download. Visitors do not wait long for their content. They just close the site and look for an alternative site. This has a negative impact on the conversions and productivity.

CDN servers cache all types of files including HTML, video, images etc in the local PoP and this enables the pages to load and reach the visitor browser much faster. In case the requested page is not there in the CDN, the page is loaded from the primary node. With a CDN the visitor movement on the site is evenly distributed eliminating the risks of traffic spikes.
