There are several differences between Shared Hosting and VPS hosting. Shared hosting is the stepping stone for all businesses that desire web presence. It is the cheapest option among all hosting solutions. In this type, a single physical server hosts a number of websites that may belong to several different clients. All the resources of that server, such as CPU, disk space, etc., are shared among these sites. In VPS or Virtual Private Server, the case is quite similar but there are several major differences. While the server resources are shared by several accounts, each account does have its allotted share that no other account can access. This share is dedicated to that particular account. This means that unlike in shared hosting, in VPS hosting, if a site gets more visitors or traffic than normal that does not affect the performance of the other sites or slow them down. VPS Hosting is a step up from shared hosting and most businesses switch to it as they grow bigger.
