Distributed Denial of Service (D-DoS) is a cyber activity intended to cripple a business. The attacker uses several machines from all over the internet and sends huge volumes of traffic towards the target site. With so much material available on the internet, anybody with an internet connection can launch these attacks. You should not take it lightly. They can create huge losses for your business and bring it to a standstill.

Determining if you are under D-DoS attack becomes more difficult if your site is down due to genuine visitors and caused by a spike. However, if traffic continues for days together, it could become a cause for concern. You must contact your host and ensure adequate precautions are taken to stop potential HTTP traffic from coming on to your server. Turn on the firewalls and set your DNS records for enhanced security. You can increase your resource capacity and apply technologies like CDNs to move your legitimate traffic faster. The best way to avoid becoming a D-DoS victim is to be prepared with strong mitigation techniques.
