Are you using a dedicated server hosting solution but suspect that there is something wrong? Do you have doubts about the authenticity of your dedicated server? Are you suspecting that you have been shortchanged by the company? You can easily find out whether you have been provided a dedicated server hosting system or a VPS hosting solution by running a series of verification checks.

There are quite a few instances of customers not getting value for their money despite having paid for a dedicated server solution. If your systems run on a dedicated server but you suspect that performance is not up to the expected or promised level, you can be sure that you have been tricked. Apparently, nothing will appear out of place if you check for any signs of trickery but if you have some kind of server management experience, you will first look at the cPanel for tell-tale signs of mischief.

If your cPanel is running on a dedicated server, you will see a logo that’s different from the ones you have on other places of the system. If you see a VPS license on the dedicated server cPanel, you can be sure that you have been tricked by the provider.

As mentioned above, there are many other ways of knowing whether you have been handed over a VPS server when you have asked for a dedicated server solution.

Partitioning:

If you know right, a VPS server is a virtualized server that has been sliced or partitioned into several servers. It is not possible to make another partition in the VPS server you already have. However, dedicated servers can be further partitioned. You cannot make another partition in a VPS server. This can only be done with a dedicated server. So if you are able to partition your server, you can relax. You have the right thing. The performance issues could be emanating from somewhere else.

Terminal Methods:

If your server has been virtualized under OpenVZ or Virtuozzo, then a specific file will exist. You can run a code to check the existence of that file. If it does, you are on VPS server.

Reverse IP Check:

You can run a reverse IP check for various websites hosted on the server along with your own. Open a reliable reverse IP check site and enter your domain name and hit search. You will get a list of all the websites on that server; a clear indicator that you are on a VPS server and not on a dedicated one.

Root Access:

If you are on a dedicated server, you will always get root access. This can be checked by making a root login to your dedicated sever through SSH. In a virtual system or shared system SSH, username will not be root but something else.

WHM (Web Host Manager):

Another method of verifying the kind of server you have been provided is using the WHM or Web Host Manager. It is an instant method of checking your server type. You can log in via WHM and look at the list of accounts. Any account other than yours means you are not using a dedicated server. Further, the features can be explored. In any other service other than a dedicated one, you won’t get all the features of WHM. If you are able to restart the server and use apache configurations, you are hosted on a dedicated server for sure.

It is a fact that some unscrupulous server hosting services do indulge in such lowly business tactics to cheat clients and earn money slyly. That’s why it is important to use the services of a reputed dedicated server host when you want to buy a robust and technically advanced dedicated server solution. Choosing an established name in the server hosting industry for your dedicated server hosting needs is the best way to eliminate risks associated with server hosting.

An established server host of impeccable standing will have a reputation to protect and will not indulge in such cheap tactics. Never fall for the cheap tricks that scammers indulge in. Do not get tempted by offers that sound too good to be true. They never are.
